Aside from the consolidation of GEA as a nationally and internationally recognized research group, hard work has been spent for the improvement and entrenchment of the Aeronautical Structures Laboratory, or LEA (from the Portuguese acronym for Laboratório de Estruturas Aeronáuticas), linked to the Aeronautical Engineering Department (EESC/USP). The Aeronautical Structures Laboratory has an area used for the manufacturing of solid composites and sandwich structures, besides an area dedicated to mechanical testing of aeronautical structures under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity.

In a computational framework, the group is equipped with a high-performance workstation, used primarily to perform finite element analyses. Other computational devices are used to control and post-process experimental analyses.
